YouTube Content Growth & Cross-Platform Promotion
Project overview
This project highlights my experience producing and promoting independent YouTube content as a self-directed creative practice. In addition to planning and creating videos, I also promoted the channel through Reddit and Instagram to expand reach and improve content performance. Over time, this contributed to increasing average views from roughly 400–800 to 20,000–40,000 per video.
My role
Content planning and scripting
Video production and editing
Thumbnail and visual presentation
Cross-platform promotion
Audience growth strategy
Performance awareness and iteration
I managed the channel independently, handling everything from content creation through promotion. My responsibilities included planning video concepts, writing scripts, filming, setting up lighting, editing footage, and packaging each piece of content for release. I also supported channel growth through self-promotion on platforms such as Reddit and Instagram, using targeted cross-platform sharing and engagement to increase visibility and attract new viewers.
Goals and challenge
One of the main challenges in this project was improving discoverability and increasing average video performance in a highly competitive content environment. Because independent creators often have limited promotional reach compared to larger channels, it was important to think beyond simply uploading videos and hoping they would perform well. My goal was to strengthen both the quality and the presentation of the content while also using outside platforms to help attract more attention to the channel.
To support this, I focused on creating videos that were more visually appealing, better packaged, and more likely to catch audience interest. At the same time, I used Reddit and Instagram as supporting platforms to share content and expand visibility beyond YouTube itself. The overall goal was not only to gain more views, but also to build momentum over time through more intentional content presentation, broader reach, and a stronger understanding of how audiences discover and engage with digital content.
Content strategy
My content strategy focused on balancing short-term audience interest with longer-term video performance. Early on, I created mostly review-based content alongside some tutorial videos. Reviews were useful for capturing immediate attention around product launches and topics that were already generating interest, while tutorials provided more stable and lasting value by continuing to attract views over time. This helped create a mix of content that could support both short-term reach and more sustained performance.
As I continued developing the channel, I also paid close attention to what was performing well within the wider content space. By studying successful creators and observing audience response patterns, I noticed growing interest in process-focused videos with strong sound design and an ASMR-like viewing experience. I then began creating videos that showcased the full process in a more immersive and sensory way, with greater attention to audio quality and presentation. This shift in strategy proved effective and helped more than double the views, showing the value of adapting content based on audience behavior and platform trends.

Reviewing performance and improving future content
The content development process began with topic selection, which played an important role in shaping both the creative direction and the potential performance of each video. When choosing a topic, I usually considered three main factors. The first was popularity: whether the topic was connected to a current trend, product release, or rising audience interest. This helped determine whether the video had the potential to reach beyond the channel’s existing audience, attract new viewers, and achieve stronger short-term performance.
The second factor was personal interest. Although this may seem less technical, it had a direct impact on the quality of the work. In creative projects, the creator’s level of enthusiasm often influences how much effort, care, and originality can be brought into the final result. Strong interest also made it easier to stay motivated throughout the production process and often led to better ideas, stronger execution, and more meaningful creative decisions.
The third factor was long-term relevance. Because YouTube continues to recommend older videos that still keep viewers engaged, I also considered whether a topic could remain useful or appealing over time. A video with steady monthly views over a long period can often provide more lasting value than a video that performs strongly for a short time and then quickly loses relevance. For that reason, I tried to balance timely topics with content that had stronger long-term potential.
Results and impact
Through a combination of content production and cross-platform promotion, the channel’s average views increased from approximately 400–800 to 20,000–40,000 per video. This growth reflected stronger content presentation, improved visibility, and a more intentional approach to reaching audiences beyond a single platform.
